Check your home's surroundings
Check for whether any trees need to be trimmed away from your home and/or nearby power lines. Secure outside furniture and move yard items inside in the event of an approaching storm.
Clean up after last year
Remove debris from your gutters, drains, spouts and roof.
Test your sump pump
Inspect yours and verify that it's clean and draining properly.
Prepare a first-aid kit (or two)

Have a family plan
